Google Scholar

Google Scholar is a free search engine that indexes the full text and metadata of scholarship across an array of publishing formats and disciplines. These indexes include many peer-reviewed academic journals and books, conference papers, theses and dissertations, preprints, abstracts, technical reports, and other scholarly literature, such as court opinions and patents. Please note that the information that is provided can sometimes be inaccurate, however, it is still a good resource to check out to get a general idea of an author's publication record and citation count.

Profiles

Google Scholar offers Google Scholar Profiles as a way for authors to showcase their academic publications.

Unlike other resources, the Law Library cannot make your Google Scholar account for you but we have provided a brief step-by-step process to create a Google Scholar Profile below.

Step 1

Log into Google using a personal account and then look for the "My Profile" link at the top of the page. Click on this to get your account setup started.

Step 2

Once you have done so, you will have the opportunity to input information such as your name, email address, and academic interests. You should also be sure to add your affiliation information and UA email address, so Google Scholar can verify your email address with the university.

Step 3

You will then be given a selection of articles that Google Scholar believes belong to you. Please note that, if there are others who share your name, their articles may show up as yours. We recommend that, at this stage, you add them to your account as you will have a chance to delete them in the next step of the setup.

Step 4

Lastly, click "Next" and you will have finished setting up a basic Google Scholar Profile. Google will then guide you through the next steps.

If you have any questions, please reach out to the Faculty Services Liaison, Lauren Hash.

Adding Google Scholar to your HeinOnline Author Profile Page

You can link your Google Scholar profile with your MyHein Author profile. To do so, go to your MyHein account and look for the "Author Portal" tab. After clicking the link, scroll down until you find the "Media" section. You will be able to provide links to multiple pages, such as your Google Scholar Profile, your SSRN profile, your LinkedIn profile, and more.
