Examiners of Public Accounts

The Examiners of Public Accounts is an agency that is empowered to audit the books, accounts, and records of all state and county offices, officers, bureaus, boards, commissioners, corporations, departments, and agencies and to report on expenditures, contracts, or other audit findings found to be in violation of law. It has the authority to make audits of the accounts of all entities receiving or disbursing public funds and is empowered to conduct investigations as a result of audits and to assist other governmental officers such as attorney general, district attorneys, and federal agencies, and to certify official acts and require the repayment of amounts of monies and other resources due to the state, county, municipality, or other governmental units from various public officer, their employees, or agents. If amounts due are not recovered, the audits are certified to the attorney general or district attorney and presented to the next grand jury as prima facie evidence in court proceedings.

Users can search audit reports, report fraud, review special reports and more by selecting either the "Examiners of Public Accounts" text box or tab.

There is also an option for resources that users can use to find additional resources, such as the Administrative Code, the Code of Alabama, and the Constitution of 1901. There is also a link to the Rules of the Department of Examiners of Public Accounts, a compilation of rules applicable to examinations and related works, as well as a list of publications and other information issued by the Department.

Joint Resources

Users can select the "Joint Resources" text box or tab to find links to an explanation on the Legislative Process, a Legislative Glossary, Legislative Council Decisions, and more. Users can find information on reapportionment and redistricting in "Joint Resources," including redistricting maps, reapportionment history, 2023 proposed redistricting, and more.

Bill & Session Info

If users select the "Bills" text box or tab, they will be able to find information about bills being considered in the House and Senate. There is an option to do a search of the current session, as well as previous sessions, back to 1997. Users also have the option to do a search by the text of the bill, limiting the search by which member of the House or Senate sponsored the bill, and those bills that have been pre-filed and executive amendments for the current year.

If users select the "Session Info" text box or tab, they will be able to find the same bill information, as well as information on other topics such as Resolutions, Confirmations, Acts, and more.
