CALI

What is CALI?

CALI (Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction) hosts a library of over 1,000 interactive tutorials and quizzes written by law professors, peer reviewed by other law professors, and geared towards law students.

How do I access CALI?

  1. Go to https://www.cali.org/
  2. The first time you visit, you will need to register an account. To do so, click on the “Register” option at the top right corner of the CALI homepage. Fill out the registration form and enter the authorization code in the appropriate box. The Alabama Law CALI authorization code may be found on the cards in the CALI display box at the circulation desk or by contacting Iain Barksdale.
  3. After you register, you will receive a confirmation email. Verify your registration and you should have full access to all CALI resources.
  4. After logging in, you should be able to select lessons from the main screen.

Lessons

The lessons are online, interactive, self-paced learning modules that cover a single legal topic. Most lessons contain hypothetical questions that end with a series of multiple-choice questions that vary in difficulty based on the answer you gave to the previous question. The feedback is instant, and scores are kept so you can keep track of how you are doing.

Podcasts

The podcasts give you another way to study. The recordings are 10 minutes long arranged in series by subject area. They are like mini lectures from a law professor that you can listen to on your commute to the law school in the morning. They are on narrow legal subjects delivered in a straightforward way. For example, property law has podcasts on the rule against perpetuities along with real covenants and servitudes of land.
